Hiring Local Moving Company During COVID-19

Ask Your Local Moving Company: Tips For Moving Safely During the COVID-19 Crisis

The recent COVID-19 pandemic has completely transformed our day to day lives and has made even the most simple tasks more challenging. The process of moving home has always been a stress inducing life event for many people. This is even more true during the current crisis, which has changed the ways your local moving company services their customers. Deemed an “Essential Business” by the State of New York, Clark’s Moving is fully operational and taking a number of  precautions for the protection of our employees and customers during this time. All of our local movers are wearing masks, gloves and other personal protective equipment while conducting moving services and we are utilizing increased sanitation methods for our trucks and equipment. Here are some other steps to take for planning a move during the COVID19 crisis:

Check Your Local Laws

The process of moving isn’t in line with social distancing and stay at home measures being taken in all cities and states. As a result, the laws pertaining to moving companies vary across jurisdictions. For example, cities such as San Francisco do not consider moving companies “essential businesses” while New York city does. It is important that you check for local city, county or state laws prior to planning a move during this time. Fortunately, most places do allow moving, meaning you can still get help transporting your belongings to your new home.

Ask Questions

Assuming that you are in an area that allows moving companies to operate, it is important that you obtain all the necessary information pertaining to the moving process. When researching local moving companies it is typical to ask questions regarding pricing and operating procedures. During this current crisis, it is especially important to ask questions regarding COVID-19 safety measures. Be sure to ask your movers what steps they are taking to maintain proper social distancing and sanitation. At Clark’s Moving, we are limiting the number of staff members who will be entering your home and are providing masks, gloves and hand sanitizer for all of our personnel. Each moving company will have their own unique plan in place, so asking about it will help put your mind at ease during an already stressful process.

Disinfect to Protect!

During your move, you will need to be just as cautious as the movers in regards to proper cleanliness and sanitation. It is recommended that you purchase new moving boxes as opposed to searching for used ones so you’re not unknowingly bringing the virus into your home and onto your belongings. Be sure to utilize wipes and sanitizer on the most commonly touched surfaces of your home such as table tops and doorknobs so you know you’re always working on a clean space when packing. On moving day, it is essential that your movers wear masks and gloves and you should too.
